Announcing new Java 11 OCP Books!

Update (11/05/2020): Read The 1Z0-819 Exam page to learn how you can easily our Java 11 Study Guides to prepare for Oracle’s 1Z0-819 Exam, as well as the 1Z0-817 Upgrade Exam.

Jeanne and I are thrilled to announce that we are releasing Java 11 OCP books early next year. Yes, you heard that right, books plural, as in more than one! In fact, we’ll be releasing two new books, along with a complete set edition.

We’ll post links where you can preorder the books as soon as they are available!

These books have been carefully written and include the most important information you need to know for the Java 11 OCP exams. While we are quite proud of our Java 8 books, there’s a lot of new material required for the exams including modules, var, and custom annotations just to name a few.

If you’re thinking of taking the new exams prior to the books’ release, we recommend reading our posts detailing our experiences taking the exams:

In short, if you’re comparing the first exam (1Z0-815) to the older OCA 8 (1Z0-808) exam, don’t. They are quite different and the difficulty level has definitely been increased. We expect both books to be available in early 2020. In fact, we’re nearly done writing the first book already!

  1. First, thanks a lot for your great work, your previous books help me get the upgrade exam OCP for java 8.
So I want to pass the Upgrade exam. In your last books the chapters to use for the upgrade exam where indicated. Is it still the case in your new books ?
To pass the upgrade, do I need to buy both books or just the second one ?
    Thanks

  2. @Ambre: Our 1Z0-816 exam will have a chapter covering the “extra material” on the 1Z0-817. So you’ll only need to buy one book for the upgrade exam. (Just like you noted we did for Java 8. The catch of course is that the book doesn’t exist yet!) It comes out in 2020.

The first book (1Z0-815) comes out this month, but only covers a small fraction of the upgrade material

  3. Thank you for keeping us posted, and sharing your experiences and knowledge!

I am wondering if the “Java OCP 11 Programmer II Study Guide 1Z0-816” will cover the topics of “Java OCP 11 Programmer I Study Guide 1Z0-815” as well? Based on the sequence of the editions that could be assumed, but the exclusive mentioning of each exam on each title suggests otherwise. So it is not clear if each book is needed for each exam, or the second edition will cover both exams.

    Thank you for clarifying!

  4. Hi Jeanne, I read on Amazon page that this book (816) will be published on 23 June. Please can you confirm me this date? I am waiting for your book to be released.

    Best regards,

    Adriana
