The 1Z0-819 Exam

When Oracle released the Java 11 certification in March 2019, it was originally obtained by taking two exams: the Programmer I 1Z0-815 Exam, which focused on core Java structures, and the Programmer II 1Z0-816 Exam, which focused on more broad topics and APIs. In October 2020, Oracle retired these two exams and replaced them with a combined 1Z0-819 Exam.

We’re happy to report you can use our Java 11 Complete Study Guide, which is available two parts as The Java 11 Programmer 1 Study Guide and The Java 11 Programmer II Study Guide to pass the 1Z0-819 exam. Regardless of which you choose, the material between these books is identical and both are excellent for preparing for the 1Z0-819 Exam.

In fact, we were instrumental in working directly with Oracle’s exam writers to ensure the 1Z0-819 Exam did not introduce a lot of new material that was not on the previous two exams.

Because of this, our existing Java 11 Study Guides are the perfect fit for the 1Z0-819 Exam! The material is nearly identical. That said, there are some small differences those who purchased our Study Guides should be aware of.

#DifferenceImpact
180 questions → 50 questionsLess questions (yay!)
2180 minutes → 90 minutesLess time on each question (boo!)
3Added: Privilege in Security ObjectiveRead this: Supplemental Material: doPrivileged()
4Removed: Understanding Java TechnologySkip Benefits of Java (Ch1 of Programmer I, Ch1 of CSG)
5Removed: Java Assertions Skip assert (Ch5 of Programmer II, Ch16 of CSG)
Note: Our Java 11 Practice Tests book has already been updated for content changes.

One last thing you should be aware of. Since the 1Z0-819 Exam combines material that previously was two exams, the questions tend to be a lot longer and contain more options. They may also span multiple concepts, often making it difficult to discern what the question may be asking for. Because of these changes, you should be very mindful of the clock when you take the exam and skip any questions that you can’t answer within two minutes. You can always go back to them later!

You can read more about our experiences taking the 1Z0-819 Exam and also how it compares to the 1Z0-819 exam.

TLDR: We both passed but the 1Z0-819 Exam but it was a lot different than the 1Z0-815 and 1Z0-816 exams it replaces.
